Here at Utopiat, we hope to use any and all creative platforms to inspire a shift in our collective experience towards love. We aim to curate rare, under-discovered tracks that are almost always underground, counter popular culture and written from a place of love and truth. 
For this #musicmonday selection, we picked New York recording artist William Basinski’s album now known as "The Disintegration Loops” which was made from an attempted restoration of audio material, which was originally recorded to magnetic tape.

As he tried to salvage the aging tape, little bits of ferrous sulfate (the metallic, recordable material, which is adhered to the plastic tape, on a reel) began flaking off and sticking to the playback head of Basinski's tape deck.

After a while, larger and larger chunks of recorded material fell off, resulting in gaps of silence, in between sound. He used digital, artificial reverberation equipment, in effort to fill in the gaps of silence, resulting in an hour-long disintegration of tape loops.

He finished the project on Tuesday, September 11th, 2001. The album received its first-ever listening by Basinski's friends, while to the astonishment of the world, the World Trade Center came crashing to the ground, killing thousands of people in the process…

We must remember that beauty can be found everywhere, no matter how hopeless the environment or situation may seem. When finding yourself in a seemingly impossible situation, just remember, YOU have the power to manifest the beauty, which can be used to overcome any obstacles created.
